BananaPeel

Apps people share, checked for viruses first.

BananaPeel installs apps people put on GitHub, from Scratch games to Python tools, and scans every one for viruses before it touches your computer.

npm install -g @blockblock2/bananapeel

Paste it into Terminal (Mac) or PowerShell (Windows). You'll need Node.js 18 or newer.

Your first app in three steps

  1. Install BananaPeel

Run the command above. You only do this once.

  2. Install an app

Type the app's GitHub name. BananaPeel downloads it, scans it, and asks before installing. Try this little game:

    bananapeel install blockblock2/banana-clicker
  3. Open it like any other app

On a Mac, press ⌘ Space and type its name. On Windows, it's in the Start menu. No Apple warnings, and no Apple developer account needed.

What it does

Scans every download
Each app is virus-scanned before it's installed. If anything's found, it stops.
Runs 22 languages
Scratch, HTML, Python, JavaScript, Java, Swift and more. Scratch games open in their own window.
Makes real apps
Installed apps get their own icon in Spotlight, Launchpad, the Dock or the Start menu.
Keeps private apps private
Share an app with just your friends using an unlock code, or upload it to your BananaPeel account with a PIN.

Share your own app

Put your app in a GitHub repo, then run this in its folder. It makes the bananapeel.json file that turns it into a BananaPeel app.
